About John

While John has lived for most of his life in Wellington, he hails from Glasgow in Scotland, but has also lived and worked at various times in New Plymouth, Auckland, and Guam. After working in construction management, John completed his law degree from Victoria University in 1996 as what was then known as a “mature student”, the only criteria for which was to be over 25. John has experience in employment, family and trust law, as well as civil litigation up to the Court of Appeal level. Married with two adult step-sons, John enjoys snooker, single malts and holidays to the Pacific Islands (Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Tahiti, and Samoa at last count).

About Wendy

Wendy was born and raised in Papakura, but has lived in Wellington since she left home to attend university here, apart from the obligatory few years travelling the world. She graduated from Victoria University in 1994 with degrees in law and science, majoring in mathematics. Wendy’s first legal job was at Hayman Lawyers, from 1997 to 2000, followed by employment at another Wellington law firm to broaden her experience. She then had a break to care for her children, during which time she was very involved with Newtown Playcentre and was instrumental in raising over $400,000 for the playcentre’s new premises. She returned to Hayman Lawyers in 2010, becoming a partner in 2017. Wendy practices mainly in the areas of property, small business, wills, estates and trusts. Wendy is married to Pete and they have three school-aged children. She is a keen gardener. Wendy was involved with setting up the Wellington South branch of Bellyful of which she is deputy co-ordinator, treasurer, a regular cook, fundraiser and meal-deliverer. Wendy supports several charities and community groups with free legal advice, and is a life member of Newtown Playcentre.

Elliott Botting

Email: e.botting@haymanlawyers.co.nz
DDI: 04 282 0258

About Elliott

Elliott is a recent addition to the North Island, having whiled away his formative years in the plains of Canterbury. Elliott graduated from the University Canterbury in 2016 and began practice with a Christchurch firm, before taking up a post in the South Island’s verdant West Coast. Whilst on the coast he garnered experience in many and varied areas of law, and developed a particular passion for property law. During his non-chargeable time Elliott can be found reading, enjoying a glass of cheap red wine or attempting to play the French horn – often all three together, much to the despair of his flatmates.
