

While John has lived for most of his life in Wellington, he hails from Glasgow in Scotland, but has also lived and worked at various times in New Plymouth, Auckland, and Guam. After working in construction management, John completed his law degree from Victoria University in 1996 as what was then known as a āmature studentā, the only criteria for which was to be over 25. John has experience in employment, family and trust law, as well as civil litigation up to the Court of Appeal level. Married with two adult step-sons, John enjoys snooker, single malts and holidays to the Pacific Islands (Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Tahiti, and Samoa at last count).

Roger was born, bred and brained in Wellington. He graduated with an LL.B. from Victoria University in 1972 and was admitted to the Bar in 1973. That same year, he joined the long-established Wellington legal practice of Luckie Hain (then called Luckie Hain Kennard & Sclater) after spending short periods of employment with the Land Transfer Office and another local legal firm. Roger was a partner in Luckie Hain at the time it dissolved in 1997 and he then started Hayman Lawyers and, today, works as a consultant for us. Roger is especially interested in asset protection, information technology, trusts, strategic planning, business law and risk management. He has special abilities with complex documentation and creative solutions. When he is not working, Roger is into fencing, jogging and photography. He also has an interest in graphic arts and technology (toys). He ran his first half-marathon in 2011 and the New York marathon in 2014. Roger lives at Titahi Bay where he may be seen jogging around the beaches and hills. He is honorary solicitor Guardians of Pauahatanui Inlet and Friends of Mana Island.
Katrine has been a privacy specialist for more than 30 years. She started as a law lecturer with Victoria University of Wellington before moving to the Privacy Commissionerās office for ten years as Assistant Commissioner, General Counsel. She then worked for a variety of government clients, and became Government Chief Privacy Officer in 2022 (until the role was disestablished as part of the government cutbacks). Since Katrine is married to John, she then came back āhomeā to Hayman Lawyers and she has also become the Chair of the Privacy Foundation. Sheās a keen embroiderer, is constantly surrounded by books (many of which she actually reads), and is an inexpert but enthusiastic gardener.

Belinda specialises in residential conveyancing and property law transactions.Ā Belinda started her legal career as a legal secretary while studying part-time.Ā She gained her legal executive qualification in 2011.Ā She has worked in various law firms in the Wellington region and overseas.Ā Belinda is a Fellow of the New Zealand Legal Executives and an Associate of the New Zealand Law Society Property Law Section.Ā Outside of work you will find her assisting her husband renovating their holiday home.

Ginny specialises in estate administration and joined Hayman Lawyers in 2022. She started her legal career as a secretary while studying part time and gained her legal executive qualification in March 1994. Ginny is a Fellow of Legal Executives New Zealand and an Associate of the New Zealand Law Society Property Law Section and has worked in legal firms in both Wellington and Napier. Ginny enjoys spending time with friends and family and, as she has a special affection for animals, can often be found at the Canine Unit with SPCAās Wellington Centre where she has been a volunteer for approximately 13-14 years.

Dushi was born in Sri Lanka and has lived in Wellington for over 30 years. She is an old girl of Wellington East Girlsā College and graduated with BSc, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Commerce with a specialisation in Accounting from Victoria University of Wellington. At Hayman Lawyers, Dushi is the first point of contact for any queries about trust accounts, general accounts, bill payment and practice management. In her free time Dushi loves to bake, and the staff are always thrilled when she decides to share her latest creations at morning tea time.
